The Catala Family, owners of "Hacienda Las Marías" have preserved its lands to protect birds, mammals and all types of endangered species, The "finca" is located along the "Tortuguero Hydrologic Cavern System", it collects all of nature's rainfall in the area for deposit at the "Tortuguero" Lagoon, preserving the ecological balance of this water system. Occasionally you will be able to WATCH BUT DO NOT INTERFERE WITH small turtles nesting in the area.

Upon arrival to our premises your First Stop is our Ranch! Here you will be greeted by our friendly Tropical Paradise Staff, and will be shown around our facilities. Next we will introduce the safety rules and instructions of hiking. We provide you a release and waiver form explaining in detail all the safety and hiking instructions. Now it's time to gear up! You will be introduced to your tour guide who will help you adjust the hiking equipment, so you will feel comfortable during the hike; and he will make sure that everything runs smooth and make this a pleasant experience.
